Buyer beware On a reference from another B & B that was full, I called the Inn On Trout River and made a reservation. The man who took the reservation asked for a credit card and I gave it to him. He said he was charging the room to the credit card. I said that was fine. A few hours later I called him back and told him I would not be able to make it that night. He was terse, but said OK. At no time was I told about any policy regarding no refunds on cancellation.
I received a reservation notice in the mail a few days later. I checked my American Express activity to find out that I had been charged and not credited. I called the Inn On Trout River and this time a woman answered. I explained that I had made the reservation two days before the check in date and cancelled a few hours later. I was told that no refund is their policy and that I had been notified. I made it clear that I had not been notified. The woman said I would have to call “Michael” back later. I complied and spoke with Michael. Michael very quickly became belligerent and said he has been doing business for 17 years and that I was lying about not being told. He became angry, raised his voice, started to repeat himself and refused to listen to me and refused to refund my money.
Needless to say, I am disputing this charge with American Express. The decision is yours, but buyer beware is their motto. - Dan from New Hampshire | Added: 2005-12-30
