Description:
Overview: Tucked away on a leafy brownstone-lined block, the low-profile 1871 House is an Upper East Side hidden jewel -- small, quiet, private, and residential with old-world ambiance. Located at the Midtown end of the Upper East Side (in the lower east 60s), it feels like a secret hideaway from the moment you enter the intimate lobby. The circa 1871 Brownstone offers relatively affordable accommodations in a shopping and museum-convenient area of the Upper East Side called the Upper East Side Historic District. One-of-a-kind spacious suites and studios are available. Most rooms offer 10-12 foot ceilings, wood floors covered with Oriental rugs, beautifully dressed beds and cozy sitting areas facing working fireplaces and an assortment of antiques. Full floor suites (there are 3) are well suited for reunions and family gatherings. Studio apartments are spacious enough for three adults to share. The “Great Room studio” overlooks the neighboring brownstone garden and has access to the gracious cedar terrace (a rare Manhattan amenity!) with potted plants, elegant teak furniture and a café table with chair set. Subway: F train (1 block away); 4, 5, 6, N & R (2 blocks away). Central Park is a quick two-block walk. The location, at the heart of one of Manhattan’s most desirable neighborhoods, is first rate.
Neighborhood: Nestled among stylish brownstones and stately Townhouses on a beautiful residential block, this late nineteenth century townhouse is centrally located just a stroll away from Central Park and Madison Avenue. Flanked by prestigious Park & Lexington Avenues, the house is set amid Manhattan's most elegant neighborhood on the Upper East Side. Because the 1871 House is at the epicenter of a chic & bustling neighborhood, many of the Upper East Side's finest restaurants are in close proximity as are Madison Avenue's chic boutiques and stylish cafes. Neighborhood antique shops, galleries, specialty stores and world-renowned museums are also within easy walking distance.
Accommodations/lodging: In its historic landmark building, six spacious apartments are decorated with warmth and a gracious ambiance. Old world charm is evident in details such as the decorative ironwork covering the front door and ornate moldings around windows and doors. Beds of antique iron and brass, a sleigh bed with netting, a Tuscan cottage bed and a cherry sheaf of wheat bed grace the guest bedrooms decorated with lace curtains and country quilts.
Summary: 1871 House is an intimate New York City Brownstone offering guests plenty of charm including lots of homey comforts. Its historic turn-of-the-century ambiance makes it perfect for honeymoons as well as romantic getaway vacations. With its central city location and convenient access to La Guardia and JFK Airports, 1871 House is also ideal for business travelers. Business executives tired of large hotels and motel chains, enjoy the house’s tree-lined street brimming with old New York Charm as well as the house’s historic ambiance. An added benefit includes the opportunity to walk to midtown corporate addresses. Fully furnished apartments are also appropriate for extended-stay housing or temporary short-term corporate housing ideal for those relocating.
The house is composed of five studios and two full floor suites. Sunny rear bedrooms overlook the neighboring brownstone garden, terrace and Cottage. Front rooms overlook the lovely brownstone-lined street.
