River House Bed and Breakfast Inn & Tepee features both luxury guesthouse lodging and experience lodging in an authentic Native American Tepee. Five acre riverside setting and western style décor offer a comfortable getaway just far enough outside Chicago for room-to-roam yet still close by Rockford, Illinois’ second largest city, to provide a variety of entertainment and fine dining. The River House’s four accommodations – Timber Suite, Bordello Suite, Frontier Suite, and Tepee Lodge – are about as different from one another as any you’ll find. All of the guesthouse suites have private bath, in-room Jacuzzi whirlpool or hot tub plus working in-room fireplace, as well as favorite creature comforts like: satellite television, mini refrigerator, coffee pot, snack basket, air conditioning, ceiling fans, guest robes, hair dryers, alarm clocks, toiletries, and more. Two suites even offer private outside entrance from their own screened patio or porch. Then there’s the Tepee Lodge, an actual 18-foot-diameter tepee for guests who want to play Indian-for-a-night in season, May through October. Everything needed is furnished by the inn, from bedding to firewood, including private use of shower and toilet facility just inside the house front door. If your stay is a romantic trip with that someone special, be sure to inquire about the Mix N’ Match Getaway options to create your own personal package with choices such as chocolate strawberries, chilled champagne, rose petal turn-down service, or a romantic massage package. If you’re looking for a fun getaway choose options such as guided fishing excursion, bicycling, canoeing, or making S’Mores over a riverside bonfire. If you want a special occasion surprise order a balloon bouquet or specially decorated cake. All guests are treated to a full gourmet breakfast in the common area or you may have it served privately in your suite. Before you head out for the day’s activities, you might take a refreshing dip in the heated outdoor pool or chat with fellow guest in the comfortable three-season patio. This patio also serves as a meeting room and provides table seating for up to 30 persons for special events including weddings, vow renewal ceremonies, and receptions. For those who prefer midweek getaways, River House offers a Second-Night-Half-Price special Monday through Thursday nights. It can be just the right time for those who like it less crowded to explore Winnebago County’s nine different forest preserves or do a little fishing, swimming, or hiking at Rock Cut State Park. If golf is your game, it’s less crowded midweek as well, and you’ll find ten great golf courses in the area. The fees are so reasonable and the greens so find that Golf Digest awarded Rockford the title “Best Mid-sized City for Golf”. The area is also known for its beautiful gardens, including the famous Anderson Japanese Gardens and Klehm Arboretum, plus lots of orchards, farmer markets, greenhouses and growers. There are eight different museums you may want to visit including upstate Illinois’ largest art museum and a natural history museum with the Midwest’s only full-size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. Then there’s Splash Magic Waterpark for kids of all ages, but if that’s not your style, enjoy the area’s live theater offerings or perhaps a visit to Northern Illinois largest Antiques Mall. Remember too, Rockford makes a great base for day trips to surrounding attractions found in historic Galena-IL, in Spring Green-WI with House on the Rock, and in Chicago, Madison-WI or Milwaukee-WI.
