Nestled in a scenic valley 7 miles from the county seat, Friday Harbor, the States Inn is a country inn on 62 pastoral acres of rolling woodlands and meadows in the heart of beautiful San Juan Island. San Juan Island has an annual population of just around 6,000 people spread out over 55 square miles in the furthest corner of the Northwestern Continental United States. Renown for our “resident” pods of Orca whales, eagle populations, and archipelago of over 400 islands, the San Juans are a popular destination year-round. The States Inn started in 1910 as a turn-of-the century schoolhouse, then saw use over the years as a dance & meeting hall, then a family ranch house. Following extensive remodeling, it reopened in 1991 as a Bed and Breakfast. We’ve got the state for you! Accommodation at the States Inn includes 8 bed and breakfast bedrooms and a 3-room suite ideal for families or couples traveling together. There are an array of room selections from full to king sized beds, and options that fit almost everyone‘s plans: rooms with twin beds, or space for a rollaway, handicapped-accessible rooms, rooms with fireplaces, or 18 foot high windows with a spectacular view towards the National Park. All share a comfortable sitting area with cozy woodstove for cool evenings, dining room, and large sunroom overlooking the meadows and creek that meanders through the yard. The suite has one bedroom with a king bed, a second with a queen, plus a private living room. All rooms have private baths. We feature a full gourmet breakfast in our dining room, and welcome you to experience our ranch while you are here. The property boasts an array of both creature comforts as well as an accompanying ranch with the creatures themselves, including sheep, alpacas, horses, and chickens, not to mention the other guests from foxes to deer to abundant raptors and other birds. Our contingent of barns and pastures that have offered equestrian lessons and horse boarding for years: hospitality to thousands of visitors and islanders alike over the years. Seasonal trail riding is available to our guests if you are interested. Adventure... Have one today! Situated in the NW part of the island, just south of English Camp National Historic Park as well as sizeable Department of Natural Resource lands, miles of mountain biking, hiking and equestrian trails begin practically at the front door, and the ocean is just 2 minutes away. A great jumping off point for all your adventures! Ideal for intimate romantic vacations, yet with space for upwards of 20 persons comfortably, the inn is large enough for reunions, retreats, seminars or small conferences, even weddings!
